YARRA Glen Memorial Hall is set for a major transformation.
Work is about to begin on stage one, with the planned refurbishment providing better meeting spaces and bathroom facilities as well as extending a new northern entrance and improving access all around the building.
Yarra Ranges Councillor Jeanette McRae said the project had been jointly funded by Yarra Ranges Council, the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund and Sugarloaf Pipeline Project and that a community stakeholder group had been involved in developing the plans.
“The hall is home to a variety of community groups including the Historical Society, Senior Citizens and RSL and Heartlands,” Cr McRae said.
She said it also played an important part in the bushfire relief and recovery after the 2009 bushfires.
Work is expected to be completed by the end of 2011.
