Animal bonds

By Emma Sun
AS PART of National Volunteer Week, Animal Aid is paying homage to its many volunteers at its shelters and opportunity shops.
When Yvonne Cooper is not busy running her own business, she is a dedicated promotions officer in charge of organising important functions, fundraising and writing the newsletter.
On Friday mornings she is down at the cattery at Animal Aid’s Coldstream shelter, where she does a range of work including cleaning the cages, changing the food and water for the cats, cleaning the floors and giving the cats some attention.
A love for animals was what first attracted Ms Cooper to being a volunteer and after she signed up in 2007, she has never looked back.
“It’s very rewarding, and you’re doing something for the animals,” she said.
“Doing something for them is the best thing, even if it’s off side, to get these poor animals adopted. You just get such a great feeling.”
Animal Aid is calling out for more volunteers to help out with various tasks and activities surrounding the organisation.
If you would like to help, contact Animal Aid on 9739 0300 or visit their website at www.animalaid.org.au.
