SATURDAY night marked the first time the revamped Hugh McMenamin Court saw two wins back to back, with both the Kilsyth men and women beating the Hobart Chargers.
The Lady Cobras were first up and head coach Cheryl Chambers, fresh off the plane after completing her duties with the Australian Gems, was keen for a strong performance from her side.
The first quarter was an arm wrestle with the Chargers throwing everything they had at Kilsyth, only to go into the quarter-time break trailing 15-16.
The second quarter saw Kilsyth pull away from Hobart, outscoring it by eight points.
But Hobart came out firing after half-time, pulling back the margin to only six points going into the final change.
In the last quarter Kilsyth put the foot down and ensured it had stamped out any chance of a Hobart comeback, outscoring it by eight points to win 63-59.
Kilsyth’s next game is against Dandenong on 21 May at 5pm at Dandenong Stadium.
For the first time this season the Kilsyth Cobras treated their home crowd to a win, defeating the Hobart Chargers by 11 points, 76-65.
The first quarter had everyone worried with Kilsyth falling into its old, slow-starting habit and trailing by 13 points at the first break.
But the second quarter saw a different team take the court – one with fantastic defensive effort – as the Cobras pulled the margin back to just four points at the half-time break.
With a 500-strong crowd braving the cold, Kilsyth needed to come out and entertain, and entertain they did – outscoring Hobart by nine points in the third to take a five-point lead into the last.
The last period saw scores draw level with about five minutes to go and it wasn’t until under the two-minute mark that the Cobras managed to pull away. A fantastic last quarter by big man Tim Lang helped clinch the victory.
The Cobras’ next game is against Dandenong on 22 May at 1pm on Hugh McMenamin Court.
