CHILDREN at Symes Road Children’s Centre are on top of their world.
Not only does the Woori Yallock centre feature its own spaceship, but the children now have a bus to learn about road safety.
Their qualified room leader Geina Daley, working in the four to five-year-old group is never short of bringing to life the dreams of her small charges.
She constructed the rectangle box at home with some help, painted it up and fitted it with seats and a steering wheel, and it was transported into the centre.
Symes Road Children’s Centre director Anne Soding-Gay said the programs were based on the Early Years Framework, in which the children were encouraged and given opportunities to enhance their development and form a foundation for future success in learning.
“The children are more aware of the world around them and they dictate the program based on their own interests,” she said.
“We have an educational program but we also concentrate on the social and emotional well-being of the children.”
Ms Anne Soding-Gay said the spaceship was still a winner, but it was fascinating to watch their interaction on the new bus.
“I love seeing the children sitting in the bus reading books with their dolls, one driving and all of them role-playing,” she said.
She said a large proportion of materials used in the kinder room were natural-based to encourage creativity.
The children spend their time on open-ended activities based on their own interests, which change constantly as their play develops.
Symes Road Children’s Centre is located at 7-13 Symes Road, Woori Yallock.
There are still spaces available in the four-year-old kinder area.
