IT WAS hard-going for students competing in the district heats of the Schools Cross Country Competition at Don Road Sports Complex on Thursday.
More than 100 students from Healesville, Badger Creek, St Brigid’s and Dixons Creek primary schools took part in the first round of the competition on a course, which was boggy after a week of rain.
Runners in the 9 and 10-year-old section ran a two-kilometre course with students in the 11 and 12-13-year-old section adding another kilometre including the track around the lake.
Yarra Division sports officer Andrew DeVisser who organised the event said the first 10 runners in each section would progress to the Yarra Area division heats to be held at the Yarra Glen Racecourse on 8 June, aiming for a place in the regional competition.
