A MILLGROVE man was flown to hospital last week after being hit by a car on a dark stretch of road.
The 75-year-old had been out to see a friend and was walking home along Warburton Highway at 6.30pm on Tuesday 7 June.
Warburton Police said the man was walking on the edge of the road when the driver of a sedan saw him at the last second, and he clipped the car mirror.
The distraught driver was uninjured but stopped to help.
Paramedics were told the man had lost consciousness and had an obvious head injury.
Intensive care paramedic Steven Sault said the man was in a serious but stable condition.
“Because it was so cold we warmed the man with several blankets and we turned the heater up in the ambulance,” he said.
“He is incredibly lucky not to have been more seriously injured.”
The man was flown from Wesburn to The Alfred hospital via air ambulance.
Warburton Senior Constable Don Trice reiterated the situation could have been a lot worse.
“Visibility is so bad when it’s dark and raining, and people need to take care walking at night especially if they’re not wearing bright clothing,” he said.
