IN one of the matches of the round in Division 1, Gembrook Cockatoo went down to the visiting Monbulk by just four points in an exhilarating display of skill and poise from both sides.
They each rued wasted opportunities in front of goal but Gembrook made its move in the final quarter, closing in on the visitors.
The biggest margin of the day was just three goals during the first quarter, so the game was always going to go down to the final stages.
Michael Hughson (four goals), Shannon Koole (two) and Sam Whittington were Monbulk’s best, while for Gembrook Cockatoo, Craig Clarke (two goals), Ricky Clark (one goal) and Steven Gough (one goal) stood tall.

Wandin travelled to Healesville on the weekend and now sit pretty in sixth spot on the ladder after walking away with a hard-fought win.
The first half was an entertaining affair, as nothing could separate the two sides. But Wandin surged ahead in the third term, stamping its class on the game.
Healesville then had a forgettable fourth quarter, kicking only one major to Wandin’s seven.
Simon Young (seven goals), Thomas Price (one goal), and Nicholas Handley (one goal) shone for Wandin, while for Healesville, Joshua Goding (one goal, Ryan Voges and Chance Burridge toiled hard.

Warburton Millgrove hosted Yarra Glen in another of the weekend’s epic encounters.
The home side got off to a blinder, kicking six goals to one, but Yarra Glen never lost touch.
The visitors slowly worked their way back into the game, and by the third quarter, were only 10 points down – setting the stage for an exciting final term.
But Warburton managed to keep Yarra Glen at bay, going on to secure a close win.
Paul White, Michael Walker and Matthew Wappett stood out for Warburton Millgrove, while Ryan Keuffer (six goals), Leigh Hoffman (one goal) and Russell Cowan (one goal) were Yarra Glen’s best.

After a fantastic month of football, Olinda Ferny Creek’s run of form was inevitably going to come to an end, and it happened on the weekend against Woori Yallock.
Goalless for the first half, Olinda struggled to mount its comeback – ultimately losing by six goals.
Ryan Smith (five goals), Patrick Sharp and Jesse Ridd were Woori Yallock’s best, while for Olinda Ferny Creek, Dylan Wilson (two goals), David Noorda (one goal) and Owen Millwood were gallant in defeat.

Warburton Millgrove v Yarra Glen
Yarra Glen’s fantastic start to the season has continued with a solid win away to Warburton Millgrove.
Yarra Glen is now fourth on the ladder, two wins behind top-of-the-table Upwey Tecoma. Adam Reker (one goal), Ryan Smith and Cameron Churchill were Yarra Glen’s best, while Cameron Andrew (one goal), Jack O’Kane and Jason Walker worked all day for Warburton Millgrove.

Olinda Ferny Creek hosted Woori Yallock on the weekend and their gripping encounter went down to the wire.
Woori led early in the match but only scored three behinds in the second term. However, the side bounced back in the third, kicking six goals to one to nudge it in front.
Woori Yallock’s inaccuracy ultimately cost it the game as Olinda went on to win by a goal.
Matthew Michalos (five goals), Lachlan Meadows (one goal) and Matthew Taylor were Olinda Ferny Creek’s best, while for Woori Yallock, Jordan Williams (three goals), Nicholas Korosa and Luke Boontjes were adjudged best on ground in their close loss.

Alexandra hosted Powelltown at the weekend, and played an excellent game, storming home with the four points.
Alex was focussed from the outset, never giving Powelltown a look-in.
The visitors improved in the second half but couldn’t bridge the gap created in the first.
Daniel Steel (three goals), Ross McKinnon (one goal) and Thomas Spinks (one goal) were Alexandra’s best, while Moses Levey (one goal), Jayden Mullan and Toby Trenfield were Powelltown’s stand-out performers.

Playing away at Seville on the weekend, Belgrave went down to the home side by four goals in a low-scoring affair. Martin Ekers (one goal), Nick Paisley and Shane Smith were Seville’s best, while for Belgrave, Matthew Hall (two goals), Thomas Stubley and Brett Thompson stood tall.

Yarra Junction hosted Emerald in the match of the round and went down to the visitors by just 10 points in a thriller.
For Emerald, Jason Cousins (three goals), Caillin Porter (one goal), and Steven Wright (one goal) excelled, while for Yarra Junction, Brad Charman (one goal), Daniel Amrein and Daniel Edwards toiled hard.

Kinglake now sits fifth on the ladder, with hopes of cracking the top four if their current good form holds. The margin between the two sides see-sawed throughout the game and Yea only allowed Kinglake to score one goal for the final quarter, before going down by three goals. Alexander Carpenter, Ben McMaster and Ben Munn were best for Kinglake, while Jai Robinson (one goal), Edward Neilson (one goal) and Shaun Martin played well for Yea.

Seville hosted Belgrave on the weekend, and from the very beginning, proved to be the more experienced, skilled side – kicking six goals to nil in the opening stanza.
It wasn’t until the third quarter that Belgrave final broke through but Seville booted 20 goals for the game, while Belgrave could only manage one behind.
Peter Harris (five goals), Mitchell O’Donnell (three goals), and Brayden Schembri were huge for Seville, while Jordan McDermott, Harley McDermott and Tom Borg toiled hard for Belgrave.

Yarra Junction struggled in its match against Emerald on the weekend, but started well, keeping up with the visitors until the second quarter. But Emerald kept Junction goalless in that period and kicked four goals of its own to put the side an in-surmountable six goals in front by half time.
Mathew Harmer (three goals), Jamie Wilson (one goal) and Dylan Harris were Emerald’s best, while Ewan Wadsworth (one goal), Quinton Hodgkinson and Cameron Spaulding were gallant for Yarra Junction.

Yea now sits second on the ladder after its home win over Kinglake on the weekend. They provided a great spectacle in front of their home crowd, kicking 17.10 to 4.4 in a game they never looked like losing. For Yea, Matthew Lowe (one goal), Jack Hodge and Andrew Chisholm were superb, while for Kinglake, Tyler McDonald, Scott Le Poidevin and Jacob Styles stood tall.
