A NEW clinic for health professionals is coming to Healesville.
My Health Works Healesville will house the current Eastern Ranges After Hours Medical Service (ERAHMS) along with the opportunity for a range of new health professionals to join the team.
The Eastern Ranges GP Association have signed a lease for a shop front in the East End and plans to have the service up and running by August.
The association found there was a high need for mental health, physiotherapy, diabetes education and dietetics professionals in the Healesville area.
Practice Manager Tania Middleton said My Health Works would be similar to a specialist clinic.
“We thought this would help facilitate and get more specialists and other Allied Health practitioners in the area, who will now have rooms to work on a sessional basis,” she said.
“We already have mental health nurses working around Healesville and Yarra Junction who haven’t been able to expand their hours, due to the lack of availability of space in the area.”
Ms Middleton said the association still had funding to provide bushfire counselling but hadn’t been able to expand the number of hours.
“Now we can move them into this clinic, with all sorts of services available,” she said.
The after hours service will continue to operate within its current hours, with a GP in attendance from 7pm to 10pm each weeknight and 12 midday to 8pm on weekends and public holidays.
It provides a ‘walk-in’ service which doesn’t restrict patients to appointment times, and also provides a telephone medical advice service which allows patients to speak to a trained medical professional when their usual GP is closed.
The remaining half of the premises will be utilised by Allied Health Professionals, Dorevitch Pathology and other medical service providers.
There will also be an opportunity for private providers to rent rooms.
Ms Middleton said ERGPA was excited about the project.
“The Yarra Valley community will finally have a facility that will allow expansion of the much needed medical and allied health services in the area,” she said.
