A FILM festival for kids, about kids and with some by kids, will come to Yarra Ranges in August.
Following its premier season in Melbourne, Yarra Ranges Council is bringing Little Big Shots to Healesville, Warburton, Mooroolbark and Montrose between 15 and 18 August.
Little Big Shots, Australia’s major annual and travelling children’s film festival, features the best in local and international children’s shorts, animations, documentaries and child-produced films.
Highlights from the Little Big Shots International Film Festival for Kids is targeted at children between 6 and 12 and includes a mix of films from right around the world.
Yarra Ranges cultural development officer said they were encouraging all primary school teachers and parents in the region to take their children to one of the screenings.
“The films will inspire discussion of world cultures, different languages, cultural diversity, emotional intelligence and human values,” Ms Wood said.
“The films and the accompanying learning experiences can also be used to develop a range of screen literacy concepts including narrative, setting, character, audience, framing, shots, and camera angles.” Ms Wood said a comprehensive teacher’s kit, compiled by the screen education staff at ACMI, consisted of a selection of activities and focus questions to help students explore the themes and issues arising from the festival.
