FRIENDS and family are mourning the death of 20-year-old Aubrey Lynne Marston, who tragically lost her life in a car accident in Seville last week.
Since the accident, friends have covered the crash site in flowers as a tribute to their vibrant and adored friend.
Speaking to the Mail on Thursday, her parents – still struggling with the devastating news – described Aubrey as a fiercely independent woman who touched many people with her beautiful, sensitive personality.
This sensitivity was most evident in her love of animals.
She was passionately against animal cruelty, and horse riding was a huge part of her life. Her mother, Susan, reflected on how it helped Aubrey and her sister Louisa become stronger in many ways.
“She was naturally beautiful,” she said.
“She had a powerful personality.”
Her father, Robert, said Aubrey began riding seven years ago, when she had lessons at the Shirley Heights Riding Club in Gladysdale.
“When they were with me as young, early teenagers, the horses brought them up. That was what taught them responsibility and kept their feet on the ground,” he said.
“For three years Aubrey, Louisa and I spent some part of almost every day with the horses,” Robert said.
“When riding, having lessons, cleaning paddocks or feeding them, their dedication to the horses was total.”
He said Aubrey was regularly involved while she attended Upper Yarra Secondary College, but she was unable to spend as much time with the horses after she started work.
She worked her way quickly up to a manager at Kilsyth’s Pet Goods Direct, but she and close friend Ashtyn Beriman had other plans for the future.
“They were going to become vet nurses and start up a shelter for animals,” Susan said.
She said since last week’s tragedy, Ashtyn and Aubrey’s 16-year-old sister Louisa wanted to start the shelter together and call it “Aubrey’s Place”.
“To the world you are one person, but to me you are the world,” Louisa said of her sister.
Yesterday, she was remembered by all who loved her and couldn’t believe she was gone.
She leaves behind her parents, sister Louisa, partner Jason and many more who loved her.
