A COLOURFUL collection of talent and creativity has come together at the Upper Yarra Arts Centre.
The collection showcases the various talents of a Yarra Junction family, from mum’s abstract paintings to dad’s interest in film and their children providing a mix of paintings, film and photography.
Marie Lumsden-Keys said it was the family’s first exhibition together.
“We all love art and we’re all fairly creative, so I thought if we didn’t do it now…,” she said.
Nineteen-year-old Thomas and Bonnie, 23, went to Little Yarra Steiner School, which Marie said was a creative environment for them to grow up in.
“When I was a child I just used to doodle and had a pencil or crayon in my hand all the time, now I’m drawn to the colour and shape of things,” she said.
“My daughter is into the fairy realm and loves the fantasy side of things, while (husband) James loves his video.”
James and Tom are taking the same TAFE class in interactive digital media and it took several months before the other students realised they were related.
James said it was nice to be exhibiting as a family.
“My son is a fantastic photographer and my wife paints, I wanted to showcase a poster for the exhibition and I thought an old window with our artwork… it’s like letting someone look through the window to our life,” he said.
The Lumsden-Keys Family Collection will be at the Upper Yarra Arts Centre until 4 August with a range of paintings, photography, video and… mushrooms.
