TWO P-platers have already had their cars impounded under tough new hoon laws, setting them back $1247 each.
Warburton Police charged the drivers and impounded the two cars in separate incidents at Mount Donna Buang carpark over the past two weeks.
From 1 July the cost of retrieving an impounded car was increased from $325 to $1247.
Vehicles are now impounded for 30 days under the Victorian laws, instead of the previous 48-hour punishment.
Senior Constable Don Trice said drivers needed a long-term attitude adjustment to road safety.
“If that car goes out of control, people are at risk,” he said, referring to incidents at Donna Buang where drivers spun their wheels or did “doughnuts” in their cars while others stood around watching.
“Drivers need to stop putting people in positions where others can get hurt.”
The first driver, a 20-year-old man from Narre Warren, was caught at 11.30pm on 8 July.
He had his car impounded and was charged for improper use of a vehicle.
The second driver, an 18-year-old man from Ringwood North, had his car impounded on the same charge on 15 July.
