WARBURTON Millgrove travelled to Monbulk for its weekend YVMDFL game and was second to the ball all day. The side recorded another loss as it failed to get on top of the home side’s midfield.
Monbulk’s focal point was Michael Langworthy, who kicked six goals to see him lead the goal-kicking tally. But there was a host of other players Warburton could not shut down, as the home side had nine different goal scorers.
Mount Evelyn v Gembrook Cockatoo
In a season-defining game for both these teams, this win kept Mount Evelyn in the hunt for September glory.
Gembrook led at the first change, showing impressive signs early, but allowed Mount Evelyn back into the contest. From then on the home side raced ahead and never looked back.
Olinda Ferny Creek v Healesville
Olinda Ferny Creek is proving to be the competition’s biggest threat this season, notching up yet another win, which now puts its second on the ladder – only half a win behind Monbulk. The home side never looked like losing to Healesville, which was kept to only one goal in the first half.
Upwey Tecoma v Wandin
For the first half of this game it was difficult to determine who would walk away with the four points. Wandin provided a real challenge to the home side, leading just before the main break, but Upwey took things to the next level, kicking nine goals to two to put it well in front with a lead Wandin was unable to cut back.

Monbulk v Warburton Millgrove
Monbulk was unlucky not to win against Warburton Millgrove but the four points saw Warby with its first victory of season 2011. The visiting team led at every break, putting together a great four-quarter effort and managing to hold off a gallant Monbulk that refused to give in.
Mount Evelyn v Gembrook Cockatoo
Mount Evelyn hosted Gembrook Cockatoo and from the first bounce the home side was on the ball and fully focused. The Brookers were kept scoreless in the first quarter, which gave the home side a handy lead – one it maintained throughout the match.
Olinda Ferny Creek v Healesville
With Olinda and Healesville sitting third and second on the ladder respectively, this match was always going to be an intense one. Healesville worked hard all day and proved to be the better of the two, even though it was kept scoreless in the first quarter. Olinda allowed the visitors into the match in the second term, before breaking away in the third to give it a comfortable lead. But the last quarter saw Healesville work its magic, running away with a miraculous four points.
Upwey Tecoma v Wandin
Like a number of other teams this round, Wandin was kept goalless in the first quarter of its encounter against Upwey Tecoma. The home side didn’t miss a beat, kicking nine goals to two when half-time loomed. From there it was a matter of whether Wandin could chip away at the large margin separating it and Upwey, but it seemed to be getting bigger, with the home side up eight goals at three-quarter-time. He final margin was 10 goals.

Emerald v Seville
In a top-of-the-table clash, Emerald toppled Seville in a great spectacle of country footy. Seville gained the lead early but the margin wasn’t big enough to put the side at ease. The second quarter saw Emerald down by only one point, and by the third quarter it was up by three. The final quarter saw Emerald at its best – keeping Seville goalless and scoring another four of its own.
Kinglake v Belgrave
The first quarter saw Belgrave come out firing, catching Kinglake off guard. But from then on, Kinglake was back on track. Belgrave’s goalless second quarter helped give Kinglake the lead and set it up for the remainder of the match.

Emerald v Seville
Hosting Seville on the weekend, Emerald didn’t play to its usual standards – with only three scoring shots for the match. Seville was relentless in its attacking play, running away with a thumping 75-point victory.
Kinglake v Belgrave
Kinglake hosted Belgrave and notched up a fine win that now sees it fifth on the ladder with more than a sniff of finals action. Belgrave struggled early under Kinglake’s pressure. By the time the side kicked its first goal in the second quarter, Kinglake was already leading by nine.
