Clock and shelters

KEEPING time and spending time have been the focus of two Lions projects two decades apart.
The Lions picnic spot in Badger Creek Road was started in 1971 when the Lions Club installed a coin operated electric barbecue.
For years Lions members cleaned the barbecue daily and collected the coins.
It’s now a free barbecue and Lions subsequently invested in a shelter and gazebo with table and seating, which has turned this spot into a popular stop for tourists on their way to Healesville Sanctuary.
Back in town, locals and visitors appreciate the main street clock and shelters.
In 1995 as part of the Shire of Healesville’s streetscape redevelopment project, the Lions Club funded the town clock, and later, with help from the Shire of Yarra Ranges, the pedestrian shelters at the lights were installed.
