THE beauty of music is something that 18-year-old Harriet Laidlaw is bringing to her community.
The year-12 Yarra Junction Steiner school student is organising a choir for all ages, with the idea that music can bring everyone together.
“I wanted people from different generations to interact and love the idea of music initiating that,” she said.
“Everyone can learn so much from one another and I hope they will be able to gain a lot and build strong relationships.”
Harriet decided to conduct this year-long project as part of her school’s year-12 curriculum and even though it only started in early August, 15 people are already involved.
“We sing world music with easy, enjoyable harmonies,” Harriet said.
“Singing is something that I believe everyone can do and the choir creates such a happy environment.
“We’re looking for younger people as well as senior citizens to come along and give it a go.”
The group rehearses every Wednesday from 4pm-5pm at the Yarra Junction Steiner school and there will then be a performance in October.
