DONCASTER Rov-ers defeated the Monbulk Rangers under-15 Bears 1-0 at the weekend, a score that did not reflect the Bears’ domination and consistent attacking.
At least three of their shots hit the post and the Doncaster keeper made dramatic saves for several others.
Doncaster made the most of a rare forward foray, scoring in the final 10 minutes. Monbulk then spent the dying stages frantically trying to even the score but could not find the back of the net.
Joel Turpin was voted player of the match for his power of work in the midfield.
The Rangers wom-en’s reserves are well on the way to becoming league champions, with another win against South Yarra 3-0.
The Monbulk side has lost only one game this season and sits four points clear on the top of the ladder.
South Yarra played a physical brand of football but Monbulk held its own for most of the match. Darcie Sands scored twice and Hannah Noorda scored her first goal for the hills team.
Monbulk will seal the championship if it can win its next match.
