HOME side Monbulk started off strongly against Gembrook Cockatoo on Saturday but only scored one goal in the crucial second term.
Gembrook kicked six in the same quarter and led by four goals at half time.
Gembrook stretched its lead to seven goals in the third term but Monbulk fought back gallantly in the last.
They kicked eight goals to just one from Gembrook, causing a few anxious moments for the visitors. But the Brookers held on – scraping through with a thrilling five point win.

Mount Evelyn’s recent struggles continued on Saturday when the side travelled to Upwey Tecoma.
They trailed at every break and never looked like mounting any serious challenge to Upwey, which dominated the contest despite its inaccuracy.

Two teams out of the finals race – Wandin and Healesville – played the game of the round on Saturday.
The two sides could not be separated, with five points the biggest margin throughout the contest.
Both teams came out firing in the decisive final term but Healesville fell agonisingly close – going down by just four points.

Woori Yallock’s great back end to their season continued as the side ran over the top of Olinda to rack up another win and finish second on the ladder.
The game was close throughout the first half but Woori’s relentless pressure and work rate saw the side come out on top.

Only percentage has kept Warburton out of finals action this season, and it showed as the side delivered a finals-like performance over Yarra Glen.
The first half belonged to Warburton as its risk-taking run paid dividends. Yarra Glen fought back in the second half but it wasn’t enough as the visitors ran away with a comfortable win.

Monbulk v Gembrook Cockatoo
If it wasn’t for Gembrook’s inaccuracy, Monbulk would have been on the wrong end of a hiding early in their game on Saturday.
The home side wrestled back the momentum, ahead during both the second and third terms. But Gembrook’s class still shone through, winning a highly-entertaining game by just five points.

Ladder leaders Upwey Tecoma hosted Mount Evelyn. The visitors let themselves down early, failing to kick a goal in the opening term. Upwey ran away from there, going on to record another big win.

Wandin kicked just six behinds for their entire first half against Healesville and their first goal didn’t come until the third quarter. At that stage, the visitors were already an insurmountable eight goals in front and they went on to cruise home to victory.

Woori Yallock hosted Olinda Ferny Creek but only managed to kick one goal for the first half, placing them well and truly on the back foot.
The visitors held a convincing 48 point lead at the major break and extended the margin in the second half, going on to win by 85.

Warburton played a highly-competitive first half against Yarra Glen but the dam wall broke in the second as Yarra Glen slowly asserted its dominance. Yarra Glen led by six goals at three quarter time and stretched that margin to almost 12 majors by the final siren.

Seville v Alexandra (Qualifying Final)
Seville and Alexandra battled out their qualifying final in windy conditions at Gembrook and the game lived up to its billing – a tight, uncompromising encounter.
Seville slowly got into the swing of the game in the second term, keeping Alex goalless and holding a three goal lead at the major break.
Alex came back strongly in the fourth but only kicked one goal as it went down in a gallant fight.

Yarra Junction came up against Powelltown in a local grudge match at Warburton. The Demons started well, leading the Junction Eagles by two goals at quarter time. But Yarra Junction fought back – producing a seven goal to one second term to give it a handy four goal buffer at half time. The Eagles then blew the margin out to six goals in the last quarter, staving off finals elimination for at least one more week.

Alexandra v Kinglake (Elimination Final)
Alexandra and Kinglake played an exciting brand of finals football on Sunday.
Less than a goal separated the sides for the majority of the game and each time one seemed destined to kick away, the other grabbed the momentum back.
A tiring last quarter saw Alexandra emerge stunning one point victors, while Kinglake went home heartbroken.

A 10-point winning margin in Emerald’s game with Yea continued the trend of close finals matches.
Emerald cruised through the second and third terms but Yea fought back hard in the last quarter – kicking four goals to one to just fall short.
