Grease a roaring success

By Kath Gannaway
GREASE was indeed the word around town last week as Healesville High School produced another hit musical.
Among a production packed with talent, there were some stand out performances.
The show, seen as the perfect follow-on to last year’s ‘Back to the 80s’, ran for three nights, finishing with a sell-out, standing room only last-night audience.
Director Chris Shute said Grease was a big step up for the 50 or so students who were part of the cast, crew and musical team which brought the classic ’50s musical to life.
The cast and audiences loved every minute of songs including Summer Nights, Greased Lightning, Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee, Shakin’ at the High School Hop and the outstanding solo by Eliza Owen as Rizzo of There Are Worse Things I Could Do.
Mr Shute said the show resonated because so many of the students, their parents and even grandparents know the songs.
“We are slowly setting the culture so this type of event will become part of the school’s identity.
“We had 300 students here from local schools and I thought it was a real showcase of the school and what it offers,” he said.
Healesville principal George Perini said the show was an “outstanding success” and that he had received lots of feedback from parents and community members on the high calibre of the show and the talent of the students.
He said talent and enthusiasm were seen in all facets of the production from performance and music to lighting, sound and choreography.
“Our talented students showed that they have enormous talent and can be rightly very proud of their achievements,” he said.
