Bombers hit their mark

By Carli Mitchell
As expected, Emerald started this game off well, kicking five goals to two in the first quarter.
Seville was getting its hands on the footy but couldn’t do anything with it.
It was a raging backline war and Emerald’s Josh Taylor, with his run and carry, was what helped his side to a good lead heading into the second quarter.
The second quarter seemed to change pace a bit and Seville started to be more efficient with its disposal.
Kicking three goals to two, this term definitely belonged to Seville but it remained two goals down.
The pressure was immense and both sides were suffering whenever they went in for the footy, so half-time gave both sides a chance to regroup.
Seville handed the game to Emerald in the third quarter. The side started to get sloppy and there were too many turnovers.
It struggled to convert and managed only two behinds for the quarter, allowing Emerald’s backline to get the footy whenever they bombed it long into the forward fifty.
Emerald played a more composed brand of footy and, kicking with the breeze, did what Seville couldn’t. The Bombers kicked five goals to give them a healthy seven-goal lead heading into the last quarter.
Seville’s final-term charge was too late.
Emerald’s Caillin Porter was awarded the Victorian Country Football League best on ground. Steven Wright (one goal), Matthew Livermore (two), Josh Taylor, Brook Kennedy (one) and Danny Rout were also among the side’s best.
Mark Holly, Mark Cecere, Michael Gavric, Brent Pereira (one goal), Daniel Healy and Kane Jones (four) were best for Seville.
Emerald 14.9 (93) d Seville 10.12 (72)

Seville got off to a great start, kicking six goals to one in the first term and it should have had more with 11 shots on goal to two.
Belgrave headed into the second quarter looking to change things, and kicked 2.2 to Seville’s 1.2, but was still almost five goals down with the half-time break looming.
Seville’s forward line was starring and taking plenty of shots on goal, and Belgrave really needed to find a way to shut them down.
In the third quarter it seemed that Seville had taken its foot off the pedal.
Belgrave was kicking with the breeze and slotted through five goals to three to close the margin but its charge came too late.
Seville’s Dean Cecere (eight goals) was voted best on ground. Eddie Wells, Tommy Estcourt and Brendan James (one goal each), Aaron Knight and Scott MacDonald were also among the side’s best.
Ryan Hurst, Sean Osborne (one goal), Bryce Davern, Ronald McKendry (one), Matthew Latham and Ethan Chandler (one) were best for Belgrave.
Seville 12.11 (83) d Belgrave 10.8 (68)

Seville started the match off strongly, like it had done so often during the year, barely giving Yea a chance to get into the game.
It scored six goals to one during the first quarter, and Yea was lucky the lead didn’t blow out.
Seville was relentless and made it hard for Yea to take possession of the footy, let alone get near its forward 50.
The second quarter was no better for Yea, even though it seemed it had changed its game plan.
But Seville was prepared for whatever was thrown at it and again proved why it finished on top of the ladder and made it straight to the grand final.
It kicked another five goals for a nine-goal lead by half time.
In the third quarter, Yea still couldn’t get the footy and Seville continued to run rampant.
Yea played its best footy in the final quarter, but to no avail.
Seville’s Mitchell O’Donnell (one goal) was voted Victorian Country Football League best on ground. Luke Nash (five goals), Brayden Schembri (three), Ben Abbruzzese, Joshua Shaw and Darcy Shore were also among the side’s best.
Yea’s Jack Crowe (one goal), Jesse Clements, Jai Robinson (two), Andrew Martin (one), Luke Hannah (one) and Darcy Connell (one) were its best.
Seville 18.13 (121) d Yea 6.5 (41)

PRELIMINARY FINALS
SENIORS

DESPITE finishing the season on top, it seemed as though Monbulk peaked a little early in the YVMDFL.
In the division one seniors preliminary final Gembrook was first at almost every contest on the ground and seemed to want a grand final berth more than its opponent.
Gembrook led at every change and slowly took an unbeatable lead.
Shane Williams (four goals), Ricky Clark, Tristan Whytcross and Nathan Leversha (two) were best for Gembrook Cockatoo. Chris van Suylen, Ben Bedford-Lee, Shannon Koole and Luke McCormick were best for Monbulk in its loss.
Gembrook Cockatoo 15.18 (108) d Monbulk 7.14 (56)
