Pets for the pampering

By Kath Gannaway
THERE are as many reasons why people leave their pets at All 4 Paws and Claws Pet Resort as there are pets.
“We get all sorts of animals – birds, fish, ducks, guinea pigs, rabbits and of course lots of dogs and cats,” said Renee Oakley who with husband Adam and mum Jennifer Lee took over the long-established Casanova Kennels in Dixons Creek in 2010.
Kennel attendant Brett Towner stayed on and is a vital part of the resort team.
As new owners, Renee said they wanted to put their own stamp on the business and, along with renovating and revamping the kennels, exercise areas and other buildings, they changed the name to reflect their vision of a modern boarding kennel and cattery.
Renee said people naturally thought of boarding as a holiday solution, but said at All 4 Paws and Claws they look after pets for a variety of reasons.
“People may be going into hospital, or recovering from treatment, they may be having renovations done at home and don’t want to take the risk of their dog or cat getting out with tradespeople coming and going,” explained Renee.
One of their ‘guests’ has been with them for five months. His owners are living in a motel until they can return home after being flooded out.
Others are looked after when their owners go into a retirement home or unit where animals are not allowed.
At All 4 Paws and Claws Pet Resort, the emphasis for all their guests is not only on their physical well-being, but also on their mental well-being.
“We know every one by name and we speak to them by name,” Renee said.
“They are exercised and played with throughout the day and settled down at night with a treat.”
Renee said they had further plans for the business, which is their passion.
“We love animals and our children love animals … we are in the right business,” she said.
