ROUND two action of the FTGDCA commenced this week with rain impacting the completion of the first innings in five matches of the top two grades.
Depending on the decisions made by the batting teams, results should be achievable in most games.
Belgrave completed its innings against Ferntree Gully at Wally Tew Recreation Reserve just before 7pm.
Despite getting off a plane from Singapore at 6am, Scott Vozzo made 117 of the Magpies’ 209-run total and helped resurrect the inning from 4/17.
Mark Butters continues to lead the Blues, bowling returns with three wickets.
This game will produce a result and Belgrave could be the ones to take the points if they can keep a rein on the Ferntree Gully batsmen.
Trentin Scholfield (50) and Matt Train (40) tried to reverse Knoxfield’s fortunes but with little support from their team-mates, posting only 137 against Upper Ferntree Gully.
Phil Salter did the damage for the Kings as he ripped through the Knights line-up, taking 5/26. In response, the Kings were 0/2 before rain halted play.
Eildon Park has 13 more overs to improve on the score of 8/167 at home against Upwey.
Cody Morris (53) and Cam Cosstick (38) were best performed with the bat for the Panthers and the Tigers’ Sam Taylor (4/43) continued in the form that saw him win the Feaver Medal last season.
If Eildon Park bat out their overs, Upwey will have until 7pm to receive their 80 overs to ensure a result.
Monbulk will face the same challenge as The Basin finished day one with 8/120 and 15 overs to go.
Johnson Park put 7/173 on the board before rain stopped play, and newcomer Junaid Kari made an unbeaten 89 against the Griffens.
In Decoite Shield, Quinten Wells made 151. Lysterfield will set Rowville a target of more than 277. Mountain Gate enjoyed a wicket-free first session with Andrew Sherry (111) and Mitch Goddard (93) against St John’s Tecoma before the Gators lost 4/13. South Belgrave appears to be in the box seat against Knox Gardens, although the Falcons do bowl well to defend.
