Rain bowls games out

By Chris Anderson
SATURDAY saw the first heartache for cricketers in the Yarra Valley. The spring rains finally got the better of the day and washed out all senior cricket.
There would be many teams rueing a golden opportunity to gain some early season points, while on the other side of the coin, there would be some teams grateful to escape the hangman’s noose.
It wasn’t all doom and gloom for the junior ranks, with several games getting a start and a couple even getting a result.
The YVCA Juniors have already completed two rounds of Twenty20 matches this season.

@BT Sport Sub Mail:Players wanted

Many teams within the league are still looking for players, so if you or someone you know are interested in donning the whites check out yarravalley.cricketvictoria.com.au and look under clubs for contact details.

@BT Sport Sub Mail:Country Week

Sunday also saw the start of Country Week training for the junior representative squads. Sides in the U12, U14 and U16 grades will represent the YVCA in the VMCU competitions in January 2012.

@BT Sport Sub Mail:Milo In2Cricket

Our youngest cricketers are just about to roll their arms over for the first time in season 2011/12. Milo In2Cricket is a development program for children aged five to 10, and is a fun and safe way to introduce children to Australia’s summer pastime.
Each child who registers receives a great kit including bat, ball, backpack, shirt and many more goodies. Many clubs within the YVCA run the program and have their registration days in the coming weeks. For more information or to find your local centre, go to in2cricket.com.au

@BT Sport Sub Mail:VCCL Under21 Competition

Preparations for the VCCL U21 competition are also in about to begin for some of the finest U21 cricketers in the area. Cricketers from the Yarra Valley, Ferntree Gully, West Gippsland and Mornington Peninsula will join forces to represent Region 8 in the championships.
The first game is against Region 5 at Yea on Sunday, 6 November. Training begins on Wednesday, 26 October, at Bayswater, with a second session on Wednesday, 2 November, at Frankston. For more information contact Keith Thompson on 0408 353 076.

@BT Sport Sub Mail:Over sixties cricket

At the other end scale, the Whitehorse/Yarra Valley Over 60s have begun their season in the Victorian Over 60s competition.
The team plays four games in the Yarra Valley at Seville Cricket Club and has members from both the Whitehorse and Yarra Valley areas. Matches are played on Sundays. Again, anyone interested in playing, phone Keith Thompson.
