THE beginning of summer will have special significance for the Toolangi/Castella community with the end to planning, and start to building their new community garden.
A Turning of the Sod ceremony at 12.45pm on Sunday 27 November will mark what is a significant milestone for the project.
The day will start with a workshop by Helen Tuton, who will talk about natural ways to control common garden problems, including companion planting techniques.
The workshop will run from 10.30am to 12.30pm and bookings are essential.
The garden is located at the rear of the Toolangi Reserve on the site of a disused tennis court.
Project co-ordinator Tabitha Barclay said the garden plans will be on display and local dignitaries and supporters of the garden have been invited to turn the first sod.
Ms Barclay said the community was being assisted by Sustainable Gardening Australia.
She said the garden would have a strong focus on community building, education and sustainability and said the group welcomed participation by all residents of the district to be part of the ongoing development of the garden.
The garden project is supported by Murrindindi Shire, the CJ Dennis Reserve Committee of Management and the Toolangi Castella & District Neighbourhood House
