MONBULK Aquatic Club swimmers are making a splash and inviting others to join them.
Junior members all swam personal best times at the Melbourne Vicentre and Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) Short Course Encouragement Meet earlier this year.
More than 800 kids aged seven to 13 years participated.
Monbulk’s Sophie Edwards took out first place in breaststroke, second in backstroke, and third in the freestyle.
The meet was all about fun, and showing the kids how far they’d come and where they could go with the sport.
Some slashed five seconds from their previous best efforts.
Monbulk Marlins competitors included Harrison Edwards, Kai Linde, Kim Eakins, Jemarod Brown, Katherine Caccavielo, Nathir Alkhlowi, Cooper Bass, Nick Rees, Laura Clarke, and Flynn Trewavis.
Monbulk Aquatic Club had humble beginnings in a backyard pool more than 40 years ago and was instrumental in lobbying and fundraising for the town’s public indoor pool.
It aims to provide a safe, supportive, friendly club environment, and coaching to allow swimmers to reach their full potential. Racing is encouraged but not compulsory. The junior squad focuses on teaching correct competitive techniques, diving and turns. Other squads include state juniors, state seniors, fitness, and masters. The club is offering free two-week trials for newcomers.
Call secretary Donna Stewart on 9755 2840 or 0400 700 583 for more information, or drop in and meet the coaches at Monbulk Aquatic Centre, 26 Baynes Park Road, Monbulk.
