POLICE will be targeting drivers using dodgy trailers in the Coldstream area.
Lilydale police will run an operation to ensure drivers are aware of the road safety standards for light trailers.
People hoping to take a load down to the tip on Saturday 10 December will be targeted for the use of unsafe and unregistered trailers.
Senior Constable Patrick Morel said police were keen to ensure drivers were complying with the road safety vehicle registrations. “We have had a problem in the past with road-related death involving the use of unsafe trailers,” he said.
“We want to educate drivers about the safe use of trailers and make sure everything is in working order.
“Drivers should be aware the fine for owning or using a standard unregistered trailer is $122.”
The vehicle standards required for trailers can be found on the VicRoads website or obtained by calling VicRoads on 13 11 71.
