Dust off your tennis gear, have a hit

HEALESVILLE Tennis Club is on a mission to make tennis the preferred sport of the people in Healesville.
The club has 10 courts, six at Queen’s Park and four at the Don Road Sporting Complex which are available to the public for a casual hit.
Members run formal social games which are suitable for beginners and more experienced players and for all ages, on Tuesdays mornings and Wednesday mornings at Queen’s Park. Veterans are encouraged to dust off their racquets and have a hit.
Competition tennis is played on Saturdays for juniors and seniors in the Eastern Region competition with mid-week ladies played on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday as well as an in-house competition on Tuesday nights.
Vice-president Kathy Cameron said the club was very keen to see more people enjoying the game and the club’s excellent facilities.
“People don’t have to be members to hire the courts . They can simply calling in at Argyles’ on the corner of Badger Creek Road and Maroondah Highway, or Barrique Wine Centre in the main street to get a key and pay on the spot,” she said.
For anyone who would like to join the club, half price memberships are available from 1 April.
The club is also running its annual ladies’ doubles chicken and bubbles round robin on Monday, 25 March as a fund-raiser for new courts. The tournament is suitable for all ages and standards including beginners and is a great way to experience social tennis … and a great lunch.
