HEALESVILLE’S Bryn Jones and daughters Kirsty and Kylie are holding fundraising events for Alzheimer’s Australia Vic in memory of their loving wife and mum Anne Jones.
A Ride to Remember – Yarra Valley will take place along the Warburton Trail on Sunday 17 November – a year to the day after Anne died following six years of living with dementia with Lewy bodies.
Kylie said her mum was a happy, vivacious, loving woman who was loved and admired by all who knew her.
“On the first anniversary of mum’s passing we wanted to do something positive to honour her memory and help to make a difference to somebody else’s life,” she said.
A warm-up event held in Healesville on Sunday 3 November was a great success both in terms of raising awareness of the ride and kick-starting the fundraising.
Personal trainer Heather Christie, with a little help from four friends, took on the A Ride To Remember Treadmill Challenge reaching the 100 kilometre target in nine hours and raising $1890 in donations.
The family and supporters are now gearing up for the main event – a family bike ride along the Warburton Trail that is suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
There are four distances to choose from with a barbecue lunch at the halfway mark in Warburton.
“Everybody is welcome to come along and enjoy a pleasant day in the beautiful Yarra Valley whilst raising funds for a cause that is very close to our hearts, and to the hearts of too many Australians,” Kirsty said.
Every cent raised from the events will go to Alzheimer’s Australia.
