THE chance to ride with Aussie Offroad racing legend and former World Enduro champion Shane Watts was a dream come true for Three Bridges rider Daniel Sanders.
Daniel, 19, partnered with Watts in the event named in his honour – the Shane Watts 4-hour Pony Express at the Sanders off-road track located in bush, behind the family apple orchard in Three Bridges on 17 November.
Daniel, who has been riding since he was eight and racing for the past six years, said he had always looked up to Watts and had gained a lot of experience from attending clinics and riding with him.
“He’s taught me a lot over the past two to three years and he’s just a great guy to ride with,” he said.
Daniel launched his bid at making a career out of bike racing this year and narrowly missed out on getting into a factory team – finishing ninth in the Australian Enduro Championships.
“Hopefully, I will be able to step it up next year and prove to the field that I’m up to it,” he said.
For the crowd who made their way out to watch the race, and to see Watts in action, the grand finale – a run on the apple-pit (built expecially for the event and filled with apples) was everything they could have hoped for – a massive mud splash to finish the day.
