PARKING times along Healesville’s Main Street could be improved in the near future, with ongoing talks between the Chamber of Commerce and Council taking place.
Chamber president Graham Taylor said there had been a number of meetings with Yarra Ranges Council representatives to address parking in main street Healesville.
The aim of the meetings is to work out a way of relocating loading bays and lengthening parking times from the current one hour limit along the sides of Maroondah Highway.
Mr Taylor said that the council had been very co-operative in their talks and expected to see changes to limitations after the Christmas festive period.
“The shire is very open in understanding the situation and the need for more common sense parking options around the town,” he said.
“It’s progressing quite well, though there are meetings to come.”
Mr Taylor said that another important issue being addressed in town was the matter of the Visitor Information Centre (VIC), which had recently come under new management.
He said the proposal to move the VIC had been “cooled off” for the next six months, while the chamber worked with Yarra Ranges Tourism to work out a solution.
“We are currently looking at it remaining at its current location or, alternatively, with a number of other suggestions, over the next six months,” he said.
“All of these are positive, and we believe we can present a great business case for the ongoing provision of proper and professional visitor information services in the town.”
