ZOMBIE alerts were on high at the Hedgend Maze on Friday 31 October, with creepy crawlies, witches and wizards, pumpkins, skeletons and eerie scarecrows all out and about for a dazzling Halloween.
In its second year the Hedgend Halloween and Zombie Apocalypse is an attraction filled event, inspired by traditional halloween practices dating back to Pagan and Celtic folk law and Samhain superstitions.
Upon entry to the maze patrons are greeted with warning signs fixed to iron mesh fences, a warning of the zombie apocalypse laser war taking place inside.
“Zombie laser can be described as a combination of modern computer games and military training scenarios, where players who work with a strong emphasis on tactics, stealth and strategies win missions against the dreaded Zombies,” said Owner of Hedgend Maze, Lea Bowen.
Games include wholly pumpkin mini golf, waking the dead in coffin knock frisbee golf, a graveyard gamble where children can dig up bones of yesteryear, ancient teeth, skulls and carcasses, whilst parents busily try and find the gravestone with their name on it!
The Maze, currently celebrating its 21st birthday, also offers an enchanted walk through the halloween clue trail, where you can help guide fairies and continue to learn more about the festival of death.
With lots on offer Ms Bowen describes her park as a growing ‘learning-scape’.
“It’s an outdoor space with lots of different rooms to provide families with an environment for shared experiences where they can come together and stimulate their learning to think differently, connect as a family and create lasting memories,” Ms Bowen said.
Hedgend Maze traded as Hedgend Halloween from Friday 31 to Tuesday 4 November and plans to be back as scary as ever in its third year.
