YARRA Valley band, Under the Arch, finished up their stint in a state-wide competition last week, coming out in the top four after battling their way to the finals.
The band, made up of Kate Fyander, Darcy Haag and Aidan King, entered the Melbourne Music Bank competition with their song Free, and pushed through the preliminary stages of the competition to a public voting period.
On 20 October, Under the Arch was announced as one of the top four finalists, and went on to perform with the other three final bands in a show at the Melbourne Recital Centre on 29 October for the final stage.
While an official winner has not been announced on the competition website, the band members posted on Facebook that they didn’t come out the winners of the final stage.
“Although we didn’t come first, top four out of 1000-plus entries is an incredible achievement for a band that has only been around since February,” the band wrote.
“And none of this would have happened without the support of you all – every vote counted and all of us feel so humbled by the outstanding reaction.
“Now to hit the studio and continue what we do best – making music for all of you.”
The song that sent them through to the final stage, Free, was written about the freedom that Melburnites have in their city.
Entrants in the Melbourne Music Bank competition had to submit a song inspired by the state’s capital city as part of the competition, and the overall winner will have a CD recorded and printed 500 times, along with a film-clip recording, and marketing opportunities.
