FABULOUS conditions and friendly faces greeted a group of cyclists whizzing through Healesville last Saturday.
The Variety Cycle is a 15-day cycling event, with a variety of cycling options from Sydney to Hobart, via Melbourne. Often referred to as the cycling equivalent of the famous yacht race, this year members of the Wild Oats yacht crew swapped wind power for pedal power to participate in the ride.
The group cycled into Healesville and stopped for morning tea at Queenspark on Saturday morning before continuing their 190.5km journey to St Kilda.
Variety Children’s Charity CEO Tam Johnston said it was great to see the riders so warmly welcomed into Healesville.
“We’re so pleased that the Healesville community were happy to host and farewell The Variety Cycle peloton,” he said.
“It’s heart-warming to be able to receive the warmth and smiles from so many local communities and spread awareness of Variety and what we do to help local kids in need, in such a unique and fun way.”
The ride will finish in Hobart this Sunday 15 March and aims to raise $1 million for the charity through donations and sponsorship. To find out more or donate to the cause, visit www.varietycycle.com.au.
