Private George Alexander Terrick

Anzac100 Years 375x120

Private George Alexander Terrick was born in Healesville in 1897. He was one of a number of Healesville’s Indigenous men, who included James Harris who was killed in action, Henry Patterson, James Wandin and Walter Franklin. There may have been others. Indigenous Australians were barred from war service in the early part of the war until later in the war, when the casualties of Gallipoli and the Western Front changed the policy. There was no mention of their Indigenous status in enlistment papers of the day. Terrick served in World War I with the 14th Australian Infantry Battalion and survived the war, passing away on 30 August, 1956.
