The under-12s had perfect football conditions on Sunday at Emerald – blue skies, no wind and a dry ground. The boys knew that they were facing a good challenge this week and they responded accordingly with free-flowing, accountable football. Some very decisive passages of play were exciting to watch and the team is really embracing the idea of sharing the ball with their buddies who are in better positions. The backline was particularly solid this week and repelled plenty of good forward movement from Emerald.

The Healesville team got off to a slow start and let Emerald score a quick five goals in the first half. The Bloods then started to combine well and put pressure on the Emerald side to contain their goal scoring and start scoring themselves. The backline held up well all day under numerous forward movements by Emerald. Some positive signs for the Bloods and the first win is not far away.

UNDER 10
Emerald challenged us early in the match, but to our boys’ credit we were able lift our intensity and pull away from them as the match progressed. Our midfielders and half backs controlled the play, and our forwards got on top in the third quarter as we started to provide some more moving targets. In the end, it was probably our best team performance of the year, with 20 really solid contributors.
Goals: C. Anderson 2, J. Christie, J. Johnson, C. Nyko, O. Tisbury.
Awards: J. Johnson, N. Millman, R. Fraser.
UNDER 9
Great game by the boys. They kept to the game plan well, with long straight kicks, defenders keeping on their man and lots of backing up. Great goals by Anthony Druitt and great defending by Bailey. All round a good team effort.
Goals: A. Druitt 2, J. Handasyde.
Awards: M. Sissins, A. Druitt, B. Lewis, B. Rutley.
