YARRA Glen Living and Learning Centre is the fourth recipient of a community donation from the Yarra Glen Grand Hotel, receiving $1000 to subsidise its fourth term.
On Wednesday 7 October, Yarra Glen Grand owner Craig Barnett visited the Living and Learning Centre to present a $1000 cheque to office and program co-ordinator Debra Traill.
Ms Traill said the donation, which came from the hotel’s Friday night raffles, would go toward the centre’s Term Four program of classes and activities.
“As our quarterly program has grown, so has the cost to have it printed and distributed to over 1300 households,” she said.
She said the membership at the centre had doubled in the last year, with a 65 per cent increase in participants for its activities, which include health and wellness classes, workshops, skill development and social events.
Due to the growth of the business, Ms Traill said that businesses were being invited to sponsor the centre.
Mr Barnett said it was “fantastic” that the hotel was able to donate the money to the centre, and that the donation had been the fourth from the business to Yarra Glen community groups.
The first three recipients were the Yarra Glen CFA, the Yarra Glen RSL and the Yarra Glen Primary School, and Mr Barnett said the Yarra Glen and District Men’s Shed would be the next recipient.
The donations, Mr Barnett said, come as a result of the Friday night raffles – all the profits raised are saved until a cheque for $1000 can be given to a community group.
The Yarra Glen Grand Hotel’s raffles are held between 5pm-7pm on Friday nights.
