CASEY MP Tony Smith is calling on community groups to put their hands up for grants to help volunteers, with $20 million up for grabs from the Federal Government.
Mr Smith announced on Monday 2 November that applications were now open for the latest round of the government’s Volunteer Grants.
Community groups can apply for grants of between $1000 and $5000 for equipment such as computers, tools, air-conditioners or sporting items, or to offset fuel, travel and training costs from volunteer work.
“This is a great opportunity for local not-for-profit organisations to apply for a grant to help make the work of their volunteers easier, safer and more enjoyable,” he said.
Mr Smith said volunteers were “the lifeblood and backbone of our community”, and encouraged groups to apply for the funding.
Applications close at 2pm on Wednesday 9 December.
