THE VICTORIAN Government and Box Hill Institute are running a competition to re-name Lilydale’s former Swinburne campus, ahead of its re-opening next year.
Monbulk MP and Education Minister James Merlino announced the competition on Friday 20 November, where residents will be able to put forward a name for the new campus.
The competition follows the announcement in mid-October that BHI, with William Angliss and Deakin University, would take over the site, with classes to begin as of first semester next year.
Mr Merlino said an “unprecedented” campaign from community members to re-open the campus influenced the competition.
“They deserve to have a say on what the site will be called,” he said.
The competition asks for a new name for the campus, as well those submitting names to say in 25 words or less why their entry is the “perfect name”.
A description on BHI’s website said entries should be unique, memorable and reflect the area of Lilydale; be short, catchy and clear; and should suit the campus “for years to come”.
The winning name will be used for brochures, maps, T-shirts and on the bus route that stops at the campus.
The winning entrant will receive a VIP invitation to the campus opening in March, as well as a Yarra Valley gift hamper – along with the prestige of naming the campus.
