Breath tests for Valley punters

By PETER DOUGLAS

YARRA Ranges race-goers are encouraged to be ‘races ready’ for the Yarra Valley Cup this Sunday, 20 March.
At the racecourse, Transport Accident Commission (TAC) breath-testing teams will be set up at exit points where race-goers will be provided with free breath-tests, tea, coffee and water.
TAC road safety manager Samantha Cockfield said that encouraging Victorians to not drink-drive on their way home from the track was vital.
“Everyone heading to the Yarra Valley Cup should be in for a great day of racing which can often involve having a few drinks as well,” she said.
“What we don’t want race-goers to forget is that having a plan to get home safely is more important than any race at the track.”
Meanwhile, organisers of the Yarra Valley Cup are encouraging race fans to head down to the Yarra Glen Racecourse to enjoy local foods, wine, fashion on the fields and the racing.
Traditionally, the quality of racing has been high, with the feature race the $100,000 Jack Hirsch Memorial Cup.
Some of the Victoria’s leading trainers and jockeys will be hitting the historic track.
