A YELLINGBO house and shed have been destroyed and two pets killed in a large fire on Tuesday 30 August.
Emergency services were called at 4.40pm to a large shed fire, believed to be caused by an electrical fault.
The fire engulfed the resident’s shed and home, and was visible from the Yellingbo and Seville fire stations.
About 13 CFA tankers and 20 emergency service vehicles from Hillcrest, Seville and Wandin attended the scene, including the SES.
Yellingbo CFA First Lieutenant Brett Kerford said the fire took an hour and a half to contain, due to property conditions and accessibility.
“The road was very narrow and there were a lot of belongings in both buildings – this made it very difficult,” Lt Kerford said.
He said because the property was situated on top of a hill, the wind caught the fire and exacerbated the blaze.
“Unfortunately two dogs were in the building which we could not save,” Lt Kerford said.
The resident was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation from attempting to save the pets.
The fire is not being treated as suspicious.
