SEVILLE will have two supermarkets once again as of 23 November, with ALDI set to open its doors later in the month.
The supermarket chain confirmed to the Mail that it would be opening in town, at the site of the former Entwistle’s Supa IGA, on Wednesday 23 November.
An ALDI Australia spokesperson said the store will have “a team of 15-20 permanent full and part-time employees”, and that the Seville store would be the chain’s fifth in the Yarra Ranges municipality.
The chain is also expected to open a store in Healesville, with construction to begin mid-2017.
When asked about the competition in town with the neighbouring Woolworths supermarket, which IGA owner Barry Entwistle attributed to the closing of his supermarket in July, the spokesperson said it was “committed to being the price leader in the market”.
“Everything we do is designed with one goal in mind – helping our shoppers live richer lives for less,” the spokesperson said.
“When establishing a new store, ALDI considers the long-term potential of the area, including population numbers.
“We work closely with local councils, other businesses and community groups to help ensure new stores positively impact the local area.”
