BOWLING’s not only good for your health, it’s can be good for business according to the winner of the spring season Healesville Bowling Club Corporate Challenge.
Andy MacDonald of MacDonald Maintenance and team-mates Raymond and Hilda Gurney took out the championship on Tuesday 29 November, with Stevenson Builders coming in second place followed by Healesville Hospital in third place in the 22-team competition.
The club started the challenge to raise funds for their new synthetic green inviting local businesses to team up and get to know each other over a six-week evening competition.
It has become an eagerly anticipated Tuesday get-together for many businesses.
“As soon as you step on to the green people naturally ask you what you do and I’ve definitely got work from being part of it … it’s brilliant,” Mr MacDonald said.
“Just look around, everyone is loving it; it’s good for the club and it’s good for local businesses.
Speaking on behalf of the bowling club’s Corporate Challenge team, Len Cosson agreed, it has been a win/win initiative.
“People wouldn’t come down season after season if they didn’t enjoy it, and we certainly enjoy seeing everyone out there getting to know each other and enjoying bowling,” Mr Cosson said.
He said the competition had proved a successful way to fund new greens and replacement greens in the future, but that it was also planting the seeds for future membership.
“A lot of the players are improving each season and there are now quite a few that we would welcome to play pennant for us,” he said.
“The impediment is that a lot of them are still working, but they’re interested, so we believe that augurs well for the future.”
The next season will start in mid-February and any businesses interested in playing should contact the club to register their interest on 5962 4984.
