IDENTIFYING leaders can be most difficult for the leaders themselves – especially when it comes to young leaders.
Sarah Ward of The MISFIT Project is putting out a call for young people aged from 12 to 18 to be part of Camp UPROAR, a youth leadership camp that will run at Millgrove from 16 to 20 January, 2017.
“It’s an awesome opportunity for young people to be engaged, and we’re particularly looking to get kids along who don’t necessarily realise they have leadership ability.
“This is not just about the obvious leaders we have in the community, not just about standing out, or standing up, you can be a quiet leader and this is about providing an opportunity to realise that potential.”
The camp, supported by Yarra Ranges Council, will involve games, challenges, theatre and other activities culminating in a performance around issues that have emerged during the camp as mattering to young people.
“We are bringing in a lot of young people from not only this shire, but from around Victoria who are community leaders dealing with mental health issues, disability and other challenges and who are leaders in spite of those challenges,” Ms Ward said.
