Healesville author and adventurer Heather Ellis will share her experiences of a 42,000-kilometre adventure across Africa when she speaks at Yarra Junction Library on Saturday, 25 November.
Heather’s book ‘Ubuntu: One Woman’s Motorcycle Odyssey Across Africa’ details her epic journey over 15 months and 19 countries riding a Yamaha TT600 off-road motorcycle from south to north Africa.
The book, listed as a ‘best seller’ in travel on Amazon, is a travel memoir about a life-changing adventure into the soul of Africa, where she finds Ubuntu – the universal bond that connects all of humanity as one.
The memoir is a survival story which also documents a deeply spiritual journey of personal growth.
Tony Davis, reviewing Ubuntu in the Australian Financial Review, touches on a twist to the story that takes the tale even deeper.
The twist, he says “reveals something about Heather Ellis that’s even braver still”.
A sequel to Ubuntu, the story of her adventures by motorcycle along the Silk Road, will be out next year so this talk will certainly whet the appetite for the continuing adventure.
In an extraordinary career, Heather has worked as a radiation safety technician, motorcycle courier, journalist and in communications for the NGO, Plan International, any one of which would make for an interesting discussion.
The mother of three still rides and is an advocate for motorcycle road safety as a member of Victoria’s Motorcycle Expert Advisory Panel.
