The Healesville Cup takes place this weekend on Sunday 9 September and with a funding boost from the state government the event looks to be bigger and better than ever.
The Andrews Labor Government is investing in new upgrades for the Healesville Greyhound Association and helping racegoers take part in a great day out, all for a good cause.
Labor Upper House Member for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes, announced on Tuesday 4 August that the Labor Government is investing more than $28,000 for CCTV and public address systems from the Victorian Racing Industry Fund.
The CCTV system will monitor procedures in the catching pens, helping to ensure the safety and welfare of greyhounds. Footage will then be stored and made available to stewards and Greyhound Racing Victoria as required.
A new public address system will also be installed in late 2018–early 2019, which will greatly improve the race day experience for both racegoers and participants.
Healesville Greyhound Racing Association is contributing more than $9500 to the Healesville Cup event, while Greyhound Racing Victoria is matching the government’s contribution to the infrastructure upgrades.
The state labor government is also putting more than $6000 towards the Healesville Cup race day itself, which is part of a joint funding package and will assist in fundraising for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
Member for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes said it was fantastic to be a part of the event and to provide much needed support for the appeal.
“Labor is investing in infrastructure upgrades at Healesville Greyhound Racetrack, because we know how important this industry is to country Victoria,” Labor Upper House Member for Northern Victoria, Ms Jaclyn Symes said.
“The Good Friday Appeal is vital to the fantastic work of the Royal Children’s Hospital, that’s why we’re supporting this event to raise money for such a good cause.
The Healesville Cup will feature a special raffle raising funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
First prize will be a trip to the Field of Light at Uluru, valued at $3000, and other prizes include a Mystery Picnic Adventure for five people and a Hoyts voucher – MCG tours will be given away throughout the day.
The free event will also offer plenty of entertainment for kids with a special kids’ zone featuring a basketball game, face painting, and plaster moulds. The Big City Beat group will provide live music entertainment on the day, and racegoers can visit the food truck park.
Healesville Greyhound Racing Association Manager Cynthia O’Brien said they welcomed the support from the Victorian Government
“We welcome this support from the Victorian Government for our annual feature race day and important upgrades to our track.”
“The Healesville Cup promises to be a fantastic day of family entertainment, and we encourage locals and visitors to head to Healesville for this great day at the dogs.”
