Flag pole down

An unregistered silver Holden Commodore was seen drifting through the Wesburn-Millgrove CFA car park before colliding with the brigade’s flag pole.

The flag fell over as result, hitting and slightly damaging the refuge.

The Wesburn-Millgrove brigade took to Facebook to share their disappointment over the incident, which occurred about 10.45pm on Sunday 16 December.

“After a great day of photos with Santa at the station and our brigade Christmas party, it was a phone call from our local SES to let us know someone had just crashed into our station/fire refuge and done a runner that finished the day on a low,” the post said.

“We are glad that nobody was hurt in this accident but it’s a bit of a letdown that they didn’t stay and own up to it.”

Warburton Police are investigating and have questioned a 20-year-old from Millgrove.

Damage control

On Friday 14 December at 11pm a four-wheel-drive caused damage to the gates at the Buddhist monastery in East Warburton.

Police said the vehicle’s driver also performed burnouts at the road reserve in East Warburton and drove through a rose garden at a residential address in Warburton.

They said the occupants also smashed the windscreen of a vehicle in East Warburton.

Anyone with information should call Warburton police on 5966 2006.

Speeders caught

Police caught two speedsters on Healesville-Yarra Glen road in the past few weeks.

On 9 December, they allegedly detected a 37-year-old Thomastown man driving 88km/h in a 60km zone.

Police issued him with a $443 fine and suspended his licence for three months.

On 16 December at 9.40pm, they intercepted a 50-year-old Boronia woman allegedly travelling at 91km/h on the same stretch.

She received a penalty notice for $443 and three months’ suspension.

She also received an infringement of $806 for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Sgt Richard Coulson of Yarra Glen Police was astounded that drivers were speeding in the rainy weather that affected the Yarra Valley over the weekend.

He urged drivers to slow down over the Christmas period and drive to the conditions.

Stolen goods

Police charged a 48-year-old Gruyere man in relation to handling stolen goods and possessing proceeds of crime.

They executed a search warrant on 27 July as part of an ongoing investigation and seized a significant quantity of property.

Police have now charged the man with 10 offences surrounding handling stolen goods.

He will appear at Ringwood Magistrates’ Court at a later date.

Police have returned the bulk of the stolen property to its rightful owners.
