Applications are now open for Yarra Ranges Council’s 2020 Australia Day Awards, and residents are encouraged to nominate people who regularly work to improve their communities.
Mayor Tony Stevenson said the awards were a chance to recognise people who make the Yarra Ranges a better place to live.
“There are countless people in our community who go above and beyond for the benefit of others,” Cr Stevenson said.
“Whether it’s someone in your sporting club, community or volunteer group who dedicates their time for others and a better Yarra Ranges, we all know someone who does great things, but maybe doesn’t always get recognition for it.
“These people not only help to improve our wonderful part of the world, but they inspire all of us to lend a hand, donate some time and become better people for it.
“I encourage everyone to take a moment, fill out a nomination form and help us to showcase some of the wonderful people who call the Yarra Ranges home.”
An award ceremony will be held on Sunday, 26 January, prior to a ceremony for newly-declared Australian citizens.
Award categories include Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Environmental Achiever of the Year, the Ken McIntosh Memorial Award, Community Group of the Year and the Mayor’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
