Additional Covid-19 vehicle checkpoints were set up in suburbs across the Yarra Ranges on 23 October, ahead of the long weekend.
It’s understood that Upper Ferntree Gully and Wandin were the latest suburbs to feature vehicle checkpoints, with Coldstream having one since earlier this year.
A Victoria Police spokesperson said further vehicle checkpoints would be introduced from 23 October.
“Drivers can expect to see additional mobile coronavirus checkpoints set up on other feeder roads,” the spokesperson said.
“If drivers try to use other roads to get around vehicle checkpoints, there is every chance another mobile checkpoint will be operating.”
The additional checkpoints came ahead of the AFL Grand Final on 24 October. The five kilometre limit for exercise and shopping was extended to 25 kilometres on 18 October, however, restrictions still prevented guests in homes ahead of the long weekend.
The penalty for unauthorised gatherings is a $4957 fine.
