According to Yarra Ranges Highway Patrol investigators, it is believed a white Toyota Tarago was travelling south-west on Dee Road when the driver veered off the road and struck a tree about 10.30pm.

The driver and front seat passenger were trapped for some time before being airlifted to the Alfred Hospital in a critical condition, one with upper body injuries and the other with lower body injuries.

Two other male passengers with minor injuries were taken to Maroondah Hospital via road ambulance, while a man and a woman were taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition with upper body injuries.

The exact cause of the crash is yet to be determined and the investigation remains ongoing.
