Eildon MP Cindy McLeish has created an online petition in support of Yarra Ranges commuters who are against cuts being made to the local bus routes, specifically route 684 which travels to and from Southern Cross Station to Eildon.

Ms McLeish said community members are clearly upset about the proposed changes that would see the bus transfer shortening, going from Chirnside Park to Eildon, meaning CBD bound passengers would need to transfer to a train at Lilydale Station.

“Community members were not given enough notice about the proposed changes to the bus service. The community are finding it difficult to have their concerns heard via PTV’s online form, information sessions and phone operators,” Ms McLeish said.

Star Mail reported on commuters concerns in April as local residents expressed their desire to hold on to this vital service, one that’s heavily used by elderly and disabled residents.

Following outrage regarding the changes being made, the consultation period was extended but has since closed.

Ms McLeish is now encouraging residents to support the petition which will be tabled in parliament.

“I created the e-petition which will be tabled in parliament, to give the community a chance to try and keep Route 684 operating. So far, there are close to 450 signatures,” she said.

At the time of publishing, the total number of signatures has risen to 478.

The petition is requesting action be taken by the Legislative Assembly to direct the Department of Transport to keep the existing bus service, Route 684, travelling to and from Eildon to Southern Cross Station.

“I encourage anyone who wants to keep the bus line running from Eildon to Southern Cross Station via Healesville and back to sign the e-petition.”

The e-petition is open until Tuesday 10 May and can be accessed via this link: https://www.parliament.vic.gov.au/assembly/petitions/e-petitions/view-sign-e-petitions/details/55/112
