Healesville Primary School has announced it’s school captains for 2023 with Ruby and Madison taking up the role.
The soon to be grade six students were chosen due to being stand out role models.
Principal Tracey Robertson-Smith said they have been great students always following the school values.
“They are very helpful, they follow our school values really well – they’re actually outstanding role models, but they are caring,” Ms Robertson-Smith said.
“There’s lots of evidence of different times throughout this year that they’ve been really considerate and kind and caring of other kids.”
Madison said she’s most excited to lead the assemblies, which is one of the duties of a captain.
“I like speaking in front of a lot of people and helping people… You have to greet guests and show leadership, speak at assembly,” Madison said.
Ruby said she enjoyed the application process and was thrilled to be named as the next captain.
“I am a good role model and I show leadership and I’m part of many communities,” Ruby said.
The incoming school captains said it’s a role they’ve always wanted to be in and they have always looked up to their school captains in the past.
Ms Robertson-Smith said it’s a great opportunity for leadership and building self confidence.
“They’ve got to lead, they’ve got to be present, they’ve got to speak to the whole school community, not just the students but the adults.
“Being a captain, whether it is school captain or curriculum captain or a house captain, actually can set you up for moving into secondary school and gives you more confidence.”
